Trailer Axles & Suspension

Trailer axles and suspension parts are the backbone of every safe, road-worthy trailer — and at Location Remorque Laval we stock, replace and reinforce them for utility, cargo, boat and RV owners across Quebec. Whether a spindle is bent, a leaf spring has sagged, or you're stepping up to a heavier load rating, our shop at 1870 rue Cunard in Laval carries axles and suspension components in the most common 2,000 to 7,000 lb capacities, including genuine Dexter axles and leaf springs. We repair, maintain and custom-modify trailers, so we don't just sell the part — we can install it, align it, and make sure your axle count and spring rate actually match your trailer's GVWR. Parts ship across Quebec with free delivery on orders over $300, and local customers in Laval, Montreal and the North Shore can drop the trailer with us for a turnkey job. Not sure which axle or spring you need? Call 450-232-7828 with your hub-face and spring-center measurements and we'll match the right components the first time.

Trailer axles from 2,000 to 7,000 lb

Choosing the correct axle starts with capacity. The axle rating must always match or exceed your trailer's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) — never guess by eye. We carry sprung axles across the full light and medium-duty range:

  • 2,000 lb — small utility, boat and light cargo trailers
  • 3,500 lb — the industry standard for single and tandem utility trailers
  • 5,200 lb — heavier tandem cargo, equipment and enclosed trailers
  • 7,000 lb — car haulers, dump and heavy-duty tandem builds

Tandem-axle trailers combine two axles to spread the load, improve towing stability and add braking capacity. We stock straight and drop (torsion-flex where applicable) axle beams, complete with spindles, and can advise whether to repair a damaged beam or replace it outright when a spindle is scored or bent.

Dexter axles and leaf springs

Dexter is the benchmark of the North American trailer industry, and from 2,000 to 8,000 lb their leaf-spring axles are the standard fitment on most trailers you'll find in Quebec. We supply genuine Dexter axles and matching Dexter leaf springs so replacement parts fit factory geometry without improvised brackets or drilling.

Leaf springs come in two main styles, and it matters which one your trailer uses:

  • Double-eye springs — a bushed eye at each end, bolted to hangers and a shackle; measured center-of-eye to center-of-eye.
  • Slipper springs — one eye and one open hook end that slides against a rear slipper hanger to absorb heavier loads.

We also carry the full hardware chain that wears out alongside the springs: U-bolts, shackle kits, bushings, equalizers, hangers and axle tie plates.

Replacement, reinforcement and selection

An accurate spring or axle replacement depends on three measurements taken with the trailer lifted and unloaded: hub-face to hub-face, spring-center to spring-center, and the free length of the existing spring. Bring those numbers — or bring the trailer — and we'll match components precisely.

A few rules we follow on every job:

  • Replace springs in pairs so both sides wear and flex evenly.
  • Inspect spindles, bearings, seals and U-bolts whenever an axle is dropped — it's the cheapest time to renew them.
  • Match spring rate to real-world load; an under-sprung trailer bottoms out, an over-sprung one rides harsh and bounces.

Because we are also a reinforcement and custom-modification shop, we can upgrade a single-axle trailer to tandem, step a chassis up to a higher capacity, or reinforce a frame to carry a heavier axle safely — work most parts counters can't perform.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know what capacity axle my trailer needs?
Match or exceed your trailer's GVWR (found on the manufacturer's data plate). Add up the axle ratings — two 3,500 lb axles give a 7,000 lb capacity, minus the trailer's own weight for payload. Call 450-232-7828 if you're unsure and we'll confirm the right rating.
What measurements do you need to replace my trailer axle?
Three, taken with the trailer lifted and unloaded: hub-face to hub-face, spring-center to spring-center, and the free length of your existing leaf spring. With those numbers we can match a Dexter or equivalent axle exactly. You can also drop the trailer at our Laval shop and we'll measure it.
Do you carry Dexter axles and leaf springs?
Yes. We stock genuine Dexter axles and leaf springs in 2,000 to 7,000 lb capacities, in both double-eye and slipper configurations, plus U-bolts, shackles, bushings and equalizers so the whole suspension goes back together correctly.
Should I replace leaf springs one at a time or in pairs?
Always in pairs. Replacing both springs at once keeps ride height even side to side and gives the suspension a matched wear cycle, so the trailer tows level and the new springs last.
Do you ship trailer parts across Quebec?
Yes. We ship trailer and RV parts anywhere in Quebec, with free delivery on orders over $300. Local customers in Laval, Montreal and the North Shore can also pick up parts or have them installed at 1870 rue Cunard.
Can you upgrade my trailer to a higher weight capacity?
Often, yes. As a repair, reinforcement and custom-modification shop we can add a second axle, fit higher-capacity axles and springs, and reinforce the frame to carry the load safely. Call 450-232-7828 to discuss your trailer.
